for women needing welfare in bc
Women for Women needing Welfare (WWW) stands for:
* increases, not cuts, to welfare rates
* access to welfare on the basis of need
* no 6 dollar training wage
* full legal aid services for family law, poverty law,
and human rights complaints
* no cuts to funding for women's centres.
Welfare cuts are happening so fast that - you have to know
exactly where to go to find what you want. Now, WWW can
be a big help. Here, we show you where to find what's going
on and give you space to share your ideas about how to
fight back and support women who are needing welfare.

- A
New Era for British Columbia - the BC Liberal Platform
"In the end, what really matters is that you elect a government that is
caring, competent and true to its word. A government that will properly manage
your hard-earned tax dollars.
After all the scandals of the last decade, it won't be
easy to restore public trust in government. But it's time
for stability. Since 1995 alone, we've had four premiers
and 109 Cabinet changes."
This is a very political document which is always fun
to look at. There is a huge discrepancy between the election
promises and the deeds done after the election.

Liberals Online Recall
To: BC Liberal Government, BC, Canada ....BC Liberals
virtual re-call
We, the undersigned endorse this on-line recall of BC Liberal
MLA's based on our view that the election victory of Gordon
Campbell and the BC Liberals was a fraud. We believe that
the Liberals have misled BC for these following reasons:....its
a long list
- Don't
mourn, organize!
"When the people lead, the leaders will follow." Or as Bob Dylan said, "Don't
follow leaders...."
Are you feeling depressed and hopeless - that nothing we
can do is going to matter anyway? In BC today we have good
reasons to feel that way - and even better reasons not
to. We will win, if we stay the course - and love one another.

by claiming they were too rich and got in the way of health care reform. This

- Sea-to-Sky
Public Consultation(full story)
The provincial government is currently publishing
a newspaper advertisement entitled "Your opinion
please on Sea-To-Sky Corridor Improvements." Through
a flood of emails to the government, they will get our
opinion that healthcare and social services come before
the Olympics. Go to www.gov.bc.ca, click on "Sea-to-Sky
Public Consultation" in the left-hand column and then
click on "Your Comments." Minister of Transportation
Judith Reid can also be emailed directly at Minister.Transportation@gems5.gov.bc.ca. Let's
also "cc" the International Olympic Committee,
who are the ultimate decision makers, with our comments.
It's always fun to email the government
- they don't read it, but it feels good. Here is my 2 cents
worth:
The Sea to Sky highway is adequate for the time being;
the state of our schools and hospitals is not. My children's
education is more important than a highway whose sole purpose
is to bolster BC's bid for the Olympics. Your government
refuses to invest my tax money in my children's education
and health, yet rushs haphazardly to gamble this same money
on the Olympics. Are you not the government that was supposed
to be fiscally responsible?
I suggest that your government does not even care if the
Olympics make money for the province. The Olympics will
make money for Liberal party cronies and as far as you
are concerned, the rest of us can go to Hell.
- AN
OPEN LETTER TO BRITISH COLUMBIANS
A COALITION TO DEFEAT THE LIBERALS IN 2005 (full story)
The response to Gordon Campbell's anti-people, anti-environmental
agenda has been clearand powerful. Tens of thousands of British Columbians have
acted on their anger, their frustration and their concern for one another. In
virtually every city and town in the province, from Victoria to Vanderhoof, from
Penticton to Prince George, people have been building coalitions to resist the
Campbell Liberals and to advocate for a better BritishColumbia.
The strength and dynamism of the resistance to Campbell's policies
aren't just reactions to massive cuts in service. They reflect our belief in
community responsibility and our rejection of the values that motivate the cuts.
Campbell's program is an attempt to profoundly and permanently change the lives
of the people of British Columbia. It's an attack on community in favour of private
corporations. The growing popular resistance we have seen across the province
is a reaffirmation of the values British Columbians have held for decades.
- Creative
Resistance
"Whatever is done to us without our consent is a form of tyranny."
Inspired by the Proclamation of Liberty by Martin Luther.
" Perhaps the greatest challenge during this time, is to find ways of standing
up to a repressive government, while maintaining and sustaining a sense of calm
and peace within. For this reason, we include, along with information and resources,
ancient and modern teachings on non-violent and peaceful means of dissent, protest,
and political action. May these resources inspire and guide you as you speak
out and stand up for truth and justice."
- a nice site
- Free
Your Vote
In 2001 British Columbians went to the polls but only 33%
ended up with representation. Over time every person in
Canada has been given the right to vote. It's time to go
one step further and give every person the right to have
their ideas put forward through effective representation.
- BC
Citizens for Public Power
Despite opposition from industry, municipal leaders, and
the public, Gordon Campbell and his Liberal government
are driving ahead with plans to break-up, sell off, and
deregulate BC Hydro. We only need to look at the rolling
blackouts in California, skyrocketing prices in Alberta,
or any of the other deregulation disasters throughout North
America to see how this will hurt British Columbians.
We, the owners of BC Hydro need to act now - before it
is too late!

The
Memory Hole
Purpose > The Memory Hole exists to preserve and spread
material that is in danger of being lost, is hard to find,
or is not widely known. This includes:
• Government files
• Corporate memos
• Court documents (incl. lawsuits and transcripts)
• Police reports and eyewitness statements
• Congressional testimony
• Reports (governmental and non-governmental)
• Maps, patents, Web pages
• Photographs, video, and sound recordings
• News articles
• Books (and portions of books)
The emphasis is on material that exposes things that we're
not supposed to know (or that we're supposed to forget).

so much of the political writing of the day is marred.
-- from The Nation's founding prospectus, 1865
- Disinformation
Very large and very cool site
Launched on September 13, 1996, Disinformation was designed to be
the search service of choice for individuals looking for information on current
affairs, politics, new science and the 'hidden information,' that seldom seems
to slip through the cracks of the corporate-owned media conglomerates. Ironically,
it was funded by one of the largest media companies in the world (TeleCommunications,
Inc. (TCI), now part of AT&T), who paid for placement on Netscape's then
ubiquitous search page.
The site drew immediate attention and (usually) applause from the
very same news media that it was criticizing as being under the influence of
both government and big business, but the honeymoon was short. Some three weeks
after launch the CEO of TCI learned of Disinformation and immediately ordered
it closed down. Needless to say, site founder Richard Metzger and a few loyal
members of his team managed to keep the site going and it has evolved into the
largest and most popular alternative news and underground culture destination
on the Web. . . .
