Books we're reading this month
Bad News from Israel, by Greg Philo and Mike Berry (Pluto Press, 2004)
The Glasgow University Media Group previously distinguished itself with a penetrating and pioneering analysis of British media perspectives (and their effects on public perception) surrounding the issue of the failing British economy in the 1980s. With this report, they turn their attention to perspectives and resulting perceptions of the Palestinian-Israeli dispute.
This volume is a must-read for those journalists and media critics who are tired of the same old debates about objectivity, and wish to move on to more sophisticated questions about how media bias actually works to alter public perceptions of important issues.
As a bonus, the first part of the book, in setting up the study, provides to most concise and readily understandable history of the region. - Kevin Potvin <kpotvin@republic-news.org> |
