Dear Republic:
In response to R H Enjjineer's letter about the military exercise carried out near Strathcona Park(Issue 156): I have noticed helicopters zooming back and forth above Vancouver for several weeks now. If they're not getting ready for 2010 "security," they're warming up for the 2009 World Police and Fire Games. Check out 2009wpfg.ca. It's "a spectacular international sporting event, offering police officers, firefighters, customs and correction officers from around the world an opportunity to showcase their athletic excellence in over 65 sporting events." Yes, that's right! Cops from all around the world will be showing off to each other in such sports as "Air Rifle," "Police Pistol Combat," "Police Service Dogs," "Swat" and "Toughest Competitor Alive," right here in Vancouver!
