Bomb kills porter at bus hub

Hollywood (UP) – A bomb exploded during the evening rush hour Thursday night in the Hollywood Greyhound bus terminal, killing a Negro porter and shaking windows in the heart of the Hollywood theatrical district.

Victim of the explosion was Morgan Freelin, 41. He was critically injured in the blast and died within a few minutes after being rushed to Hollywood receiving hospital.

Police reported the blast occurred as Freelin was carrying either a package or pail across the open area at the rear of the bus depot.

Officers immediately started an investigation to determine if Freelin might have detonated the explosives himself in a suicide effort.

The explosion occurred shortly after 5 pm and first reports said several persons might have been injured. But police quickly determined that only the porter was hurt.

The blast, however, brought hundreds of persons to the scene, just a short distance from the famed corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, considered the heart of the film colony.
