Blowing gas

Dear Republic:

The reporter who covered a talk by that Natural Resources Canada guy in Calgary is displaying another example of pro-environmentalist claptrap.

I have been investing in Canada’s oil and natural gas patch for more than 30 years. Back in those days, and in fact going back into the ’60s, just about every year “experts,” generally “analysts” from some Bay Street brokerage firm, would announce that Alberta, specifically, only had ten years of oil left in the ground. That was before the estimated 800-year supply of Oilsands became viable, thanks to higher energy prices.

Now some creature from the depths of Ottawa’s own version of the tar sands, the bureaucracy, announces, like some upstart prig, that Canada has eight years supply of natural gas left. Prove it! There is no accurate estimation of the amounts of coalbed methane, from which natural gas is extracted. And then there are those deposits of gas way down deep under the foothills of the Rockies, called the Deep Basin. Look at the Western Sedimentary Basin in its totality, including northeastern B.C.’s dramatic gas plays, and southern Saskatchewan, whose oil and natural gas plays are relatively recent compared to Alberta’s. A lot of Calgary-based E and P companies are drilling there and finding good quality hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are being exploited in Ontario, and now Quebec is being viewed as a potentially big natural gas play on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River. As well, there are positive geological formations under the high arctic islands indicating massive amounts of natural gas present. That is in addition to the Mackenize Valley/Delta and Beaufort Sea deposits, which are more clearly delineated and separate from the high arctic.

What triggers more energy supply is an increase in the price of the resource. I personally think Canada’s natural gas resources will span many hundreds, or more, years. Canada’s oil/gas patch extraction technologies are world class and wait for no conflict-of-interest-riddled bureaucrat to tell them there’s no more natural gas to chase. This guy will be out to pasture, for a long, long time, while investors continue to reel in the nice, plump dividends from Canadian oil/gas companies over the next several decades. In fact you can bet that this chap’s personal federal government retirement portfolio is riddled with oil company shares. Some conflict of interest! He’s going to enjoy a great retirement, thanks to our energy patch!

I always suspect federal government “experts.” It started with those gnomes from Environment Canada who touted the Kyoto Accord, starting in 1997. Their cataclysmic line of thinking has been the following: if Canadians would only shut down their entire manufacturing/resources infrastruc-ture, stop driving, stop breathing, stop living, Canada’s compliance with Kyoto will save the world, and we’ll all be good little boy/girl scouts, and get gold stars, and a subsidized lunch, from Kofi Annan.

If your publication is merely a disturber of barnyard droppings, then fine. But if you seek credibility then find a new focus and get serious about the issues of the day. Canada’s socialist press has a long and troubled history of publishing pure fiction, and not very competent pure fiction at that. This effort out of Calagary isn’t the first. And it won’t be the last fictious piece of so-called “journalism” from the Left, of course.

The criminals

Dear Republic:

I read “Canada should rethink its global alliances” (issue 130) quite in disbelief. Few journalists have the insight and courage to expose the events of 9/11 as the covert operation that they were, and understand the geo-political consequences as well. Congratulations.

However, I propose another possibility for stopping the crime syndicate masquerading as the US government: exposure of the crimes of 9/11 on a massive scale. The real criminals include elements of the US military. Rumsfeld and General Eberhart and Richard Myers were in charge of air defence on that day. 911isalie.com (a great free DVD) and st911.org should be promoted.

DVDs like Confronting the Evidence, Loose Change, and others should be promoted. I personally have distributed thousands (thanks to my DVD-duplicator).

The truth shall set us free. And nothing short of the truth will stop this crime spree. The real conspiracy theory is that 19 Arabs flew around for 102 minutes during an unprecedented collapse of the US air defence system, and that standard procedure was taking place. Learn the truth and stop the real criminals while there is still time.
